Schuyler School 8th graders recently embarked on an
adventure to the Great Swamp in Chatham, NJ
As part of the National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellowship Program, a joint project between the Kearny School District and Montclair State University, the Schuyler School 8th graders recently embarked on an adventure to the Great Swamp in Chatham, NJ. The students spent the first part of the day learning how to navigate with the use of a compass. They enjoyed using these skills to follow a map in a search of buried treasure. After that the students went “fishing” for organisms in the pond (picture above) and used a dichotomous key to identify what they found. There are many other GK-12 related activities going on in the Schuyler School 8th grade science and math classes. A future trip to Sandy Hook is planned for May. Stay tuned for details and pictures of the activities as they take place!
